Tournament Report
On the weekend of 14th & 15th September, Milnerton Bowling Club hosted 24 teams from all over the Western Cape. It was a competition in which all teams, of four members each, competed with one another for a grand prize of R12 000.00 for the winning team. Although all teams received a prize, team Tony v/d Poel walked away with the top prize while teams Anneke Scheepers and Sebbie Rodrigues followed in 2nd and 3rd places respectively. The whole competition consisted of 6 matched played over two days in which all 96 players were given coffee and rusks in the morning, with Saturday lunch consisted of fish and chips and Sunday was a full blown roast with vegetables. The ladies, led by Jeanette Greeff in the kitchen delivered the most sumptuous meals and snacks that one could wish for. The bar, obviously, was the most popular facility and was frequented until late. From the weather point of view, we enjoyed a wonderful sunny Saturday with clouds and a spattering of rain on Sunday. Bowls in the Western Cape is healthy and the unbelievable atmosphere of comradeship and competitive enjoyment made one proud to be associated with our bowling fraternity. None of this would be possible without sponsorship and donations from various establishments who, besides cash prizes, donated luggage bags, wines, vouchers for meals, soft drinks and books.
Two raffles consisting of one week’s accommodation at Sedgefield and the other a meat hamper raised over R5 000 toward the Club’s coffers. At the end of the festivities, all team leaders advised that they would be back for next year’s MBC Classic.
Yours sincerely,
